Delray Beach is launching a major beach replenishment project, with equipment now staged at Casuarina Road for easy access and operation.

This effort is designed to fight coastal erosion while boosting shoreline resilience and protection for local properties.

Hopper dredges will extract sand from carefully selected offshore spots, preserving marine habitats and matching existing sand quality.

The sand will travel through pipes and be distributed along the beach using heavy machinery, effectively widening the shore and strengthening the dunes.

The city’s leaders, including City Manager Terrence Moore, emphasize the project’s crucial role in protecting Delray Beach’s future and highlight teamwork among federal, state, and local partners.

The federal government is investing $19.2 million via Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, with Delray Beach, Palm Beach County, and the state all sharing funding responsibilities.

Completion is planned before sea turtle nesting season, reflecting Delray Beach’s ongoing commitment to environmental care.

Boca Raton leaders have unanimously greenlit a $500,000 incentive to attract a major quantum computing company from California, hoping to relocate its headquarters to the Boca Raton Innovation Campus (BRiC).

The recruitment effort, nicknamed Project Vernon, is projected to create 100 high-paying jobs over the next five years, each averaging at least $125,000.

City Manager Mark Sohaney stressed the financial upside, noting that state incentives would multiply Boca’s commitment twelvefold.

The company’s identity remains undisclosed, but it is described as a publicly traded leader in quantum computing currently weighing moves to Florida, Tennessee, or North Carolina.

Excitement is fueled by a prominent quantum tech conference soon coming to The Boca Raton resort, highlighting the city’s innovation legacy dating back to IBM’s arrival in 1967.
