Marissa Leah Katz, 45, of Boca Raton, is contesting DUI and careless driving charges after her Jeep ended up submerged in a lake at the exclusive Woodfield Country Club.

On January 25, 2026, witnesses saw Katz’s white Jeep speed through an intersection, jump a curb, and plunge into a lake within the gated community.

Police reported Katz had red, glassy eyes, and there was a strong smell of alcohol when they arrived.

She was described as demanding and repeatedly asked to go home, then struggled badly with field sobriety tests.

Breathalyzer results were more than three times the legal limit.

Her attorney is now using Florida’s criminal discovery process, with a hearing set for February 6.

The incident has raised concerns about safety and responsible driving in the well-known Woodfield Country Club community.

Boca Raton has enacted a new ordinance aimed at tackling trespassing on city-owned properties, including parks and recreational areas.

The updated regulations synchronize local codes with state law, creating a structured process for addressing unlawful activities in public spaces.

For the first time, the ordinance outlines clear enforcement protocols, allowing the city to impose temporary bans and ensure robust notice and hearing rights for those accused.

A trespass warning can now be issued for any violation—federal, state, or local—on public property.

Enforcement includes both standard warnings from a neutral officer after a formal hearing and immediate warnings from police in cases involving danger, repeated offenses, or threats.

Protections are built in to safeguard free speech and prevent unfair targeting of unhoused individuals, unless there’s a clear violation.

The move aims to promote safety, fairness, and transparency throughout Boca Raton’s public spaces.

Planning a Winter Nature Walk in Florida’s Natural Areas

Florida’s mild winters create the perfect opportunity to explore trails, wetlands, and wildlife preserves without the intense summer heat.

A thoughtful plan helps you enjoy nature comfortably while protecting the environment and staying safe outdoors.

  • Dress in Light Layers: Mornings can be cool while afternoons warm up quickly.

Wear breathable layers so you can adjust as temperatures change.
  • Choose Wildlife-Friendly Trails: Stick to marked paths to protect fragile habitats and avoid disturbing nesting birds or resting animals.
  • Bring Water and Snacks: Even in cooler weather, staying hydrated is important.

Pack reusable bottles and light snacks for energy.
  • Check Weather Conditions: Winter cold fronts can bring sudden wind or rain.

Review forecasts before heading out and plan accordingly.
  • Carry Sun Protection: Florida sun remains strong year-round — hats, sunscreen, and sunglasses help prevent overexposure.
  • Practice Leave No Trace: Take all trash with you, avoid picking plants, and leave natural features undisturbed.

Tip: Bring binoculars or a camera to observe winter migratory birds and native wildlife — quiet observation adds magic to any nature walk.

⚠️ Safety: Watch for uneven terrain, wildlife crossings, and cooler evening temperatures.

Let someone know your plans, and turn back if conditions change.
